Fencer Alan Kinvig is working hard again after a difficult time over the Covid period. Alan often only has to do one job to win clients among neighbours – in this garden behind Fulwood Asda he can reel off almost a dozen clients in the immediate vicinity.
He’s come a long way since his redundancy from UCLAN’s grounds maintenance team six years ago.
Alan, 53, has subcontractor friends to help with big jobs and is so confident of his work he refers people wanting references to his last 10 customers. “I often work seven days a week,” says Alan, who picks up a lot of work via recommendation and contacts, including Ashton Joinery. “I’m probably more particular than the customer about what I do as it’s my name at stake,” he says.
Before nine years with UCLAN, Alan spent 10 years as the main erector for a large fencing business and worked two years at a garden centre. He is customer-focussed. “If I make an appointment, I’m always early. I listen closely to what the customer wants and answer my phone and emails.”
Alan does all types of fencing, metal, concrete and wood, including close-board, lap, picket, post and rail and trellising. See his new website for a wide range of his work and testimonials.
He offers an emergency call-out for wind or other damage.
