Fencer Alan Kinvig is working hard again after a difficult time over the Covid period. Alan often only has to do one job to win clients among neighbours – in this garden behind Fulwood Asda he can reel off almost a dozen clients in the immediate vicinity. He’s come a long way since his redundancy from UCLAN’s grounds maintenance team six years ago.
Alan, 49, has sub-contractor friends to help with big jobs and is so confident of his work he refers people wanting references to his last 10 customers. “I often work seven days a week,” says Alan, who picks up a lot of work via recommendation and contacts, including Ashton Joinery. “I’m probably more particular than the customer about what I do as it’s my name at stake,” he says.
Before nine years with UCLAN, Alan spent 10 years as the main erector for a large fencing business and worked two years at a garden centre. He is customer focussed. “If I make an appointment, I’m always early. I listen closely to what the customer wants and answer my phone and emails.”
Alan does all types of fencing, metal, concrete and wood, including close-board, lap, picket, post and rail and trellising. See his new website for a wide range of his work and testimonials.
