Longridge Eyewear

Optician Mark Hornby brings a fresh, modern look to your eyes – plus many years in eyecare from the factory floor upwards.

His shop on Longridge’s high street is a labour of love – Mark, whose father was a joiner, spent eight weeks fitting it out himself, re-using old pallets tinged in pastel shades to provide a novel backdrop for his glasses.  But it is in the dispensing of glasses and contact lenses that Mark, 53, excels, with 36 years of experience, including seven running his shop in Lytham.

Before that, he made lenses at laboratories on the Fylde Coast, then decided to train as an optician. “I have learned from the ground up,” he adds. “If someone comes in with a big prescription, I can talk them through what might work – I explain things in layman’s terms. I am honest – if spectacles are going to look hideous, I’m going to do my best to talk the patient out of buying them.”

Mark is a Zeiss main dealer because “they are probably the best lenses in the world” and he stocks a wide range of fashionable glasses, including Hugo Boss, Ted Baker, Jimmy Choo, Kate Spade and a collection for petite ladies. He also has Rayban sunglasses and does specialist prescription frames for cyclists and sportspeople.

The shop is also an Amplifon centre, offering hearing tests and supplying hearing aids.  Look Mark up to look better!
