An appointments backlog during Covid-19 gave these sisters the push to bring a fresh, much– needed addition to the local dentistry scene.
Debbie Proctor, 38, and Diane Washington, 45, saw the need for preventative dentistry during the early months of 2020, as lockdown began, opening Mint Dental Hygiene that September. Working with a number of local dentists, who recommend Mint, they serve to reduce the stress on both NHS and private dentistry, whilst also being able to offer longer appointments that are sorely needed. “We offer a 40–minute slot to enable thorough cleaning and teaching,” explains Debbie. “We pride ourselves in giving the gentle, pain-free service we all seek when visiting a dentist, and don’t always get,” said Diane.
The friendly sisters, both born in Much Hoole, went into dental nursing aged 16, after finishing at Penwortham Priory High School. Diane, qualifying in dental hygiene at Manchester Dental Hospital 23 years ago, worked in Leyland and the Lake District before returning home. Debbie worked in Leyland for 15 years before taking a short break to start her family.
Amanda Watson, 36, dental hygienist and therapist, has joined the team, bringing 14 years of experience. The family business is now flourishing and the pair clearly take pride in all they do. “People really do walk out amazed that such results are possible,” says Debbie. Satisfied customer Sammy T, from Penwortham said: “My teeth feel brand new. I cannot believe how fresh my mouth is.” Their GBT (guided bio-film therapy) is not found elsewhere locally – see their website for more info.
