Gardener Mark Hemstock will tackle any gardening challenge, large or small. Drainage work, particularly at new homes, is forming more of his work as housing estates mushroom around Preston.
Over his 28 years in business, he’s run a company employing up to 10 gardeners completing projects in all sizes of gardens. He’s also won a bronze medal at Southport Flower Show, showing his quality approach. “We have done everything from grounds maintenance to landscaping to garden design,” says Mark. “We always do a good job – you want repeat business and people to speak to others about what you’ve done. We are very much reliant on our last performance.”
Mark, 47, got into gardening by helping his grandad in Fulwood, then volunteering for Age Concern, where he built up a list of grateful clients. He got a job with Cutting Edge, then owned by Chris Finch, gained a degree in horticulture from Myerscough College – and in 1994 took over the company. Before the 2008 recession, he had 10 staff – now he employs gardeners according to the size of his project.
Mark’s list of services is comprehensive, from garden maintenance, landscaping, tree surgery and flagging to bedding and planting schemes, turfing, water features, drainage, fencing, decking and design. “If we can’t do something, I know someone who can,” he adds. Resin driveways are popular for people wanting to cover tarmac or concrete. He is proud to be a Bradstone Assured landscaper, a Trustmark endorsed trader (the Government backed quality scheme) and a member of the Association of Professional Landscapers.
Clients have included Bowker BMW – he also does commercial work – and Beardsworth Builders, plus many domestic householders. See also his excellent website to learn more and see his new branding!
