Freddi Dewhurst and his team have had a hugely successful few years, and are here for all your building and joinery needs.
FTD Building Contractors Ltd was established in 2020 by Freddi but his family have been in the business for over 70 years. Grandad Thomas Wilfred Thompson, armed with just a bag of tools, a 24ft cabin and the determination to succeed, built the famous Thompson Builders Merchants based in Preston.
Beginning in the 1950s, by 1963 Thomas had saved enough money to buy Hill Top Farm in Barton, where you can find the new FTD offices. By the mid-1980s, the business saw such growth that Thomas brought in his daughter Georgina to help run the business, with son Graham later joining the team. It grew from strength to strength and into one of the most successful builders merchants in the area. Sadly the firm’s founder, Thomas died in May 2000, but his strong family values did not.
Freddi worked with dad Graham on building projects before leaving Broughton High School to do apprentice joinery, then advanced joinery, at Preston’s College. In 2017, at just 19 years old, Freddi had completed his Joinery apprenticeship and went on to do his HNC in Construction at UCLAN, giving him more knowledge and enabling him to manage and run larger jobs such as loft conversions In July 2019 he went out on his own and, with the same determination to succeed, began building his own successful business. He now has a trusted team of fully qualified joiners and undertakes all aspects of joinery work and project management.
Freddi’s team of employees and sub–contractors help him tackle bigger projects such as extensions and property refurbishments. He believes in hard work and will work seven days a week to complete a project, if needed. Freddi has won contracts with large organisations in the construction industry across Lancashire, and even travels as far as London and Scotland. He adds: “I love the job. Every day is different. You meet new people and new challenges. I never want to leave a job knowing it is not up to my standards. I want the customer to be happy with my work.”
