Friendly decorator Gavin wins over his customers so well that they frequently invite him back. He’s hugely experienced and aims to offer a reasonably priced service to mainly domestic clients.
Aged 50, Gavin has been in the trade since school, serving an apprenticeship with Whittle Decorators, Preston. He then worked for his father Ken, a Garstang builder until 23 years ago when he branched out on his own. “No job is too small,” he says. “I charge a competitive price, take a pride in my work and always aim to do a quality job. I am generally asked back to do more work – that’s what happens when you do a good job. I also get a lot of referrals from existing customers – recently I’ve been to Longton and Lytham, where I don’t even advertise.”
Gavin offers all aspects of general decorating – wallpapering, emulsioning, glossing and exterior painting. His biggest job was 50 rooms at Catterall House Residential Home, Garstang, but his mainstay is residential work, mostly round the north of Preston, including Longridge where used to live. “I have been a decorator for 29 years,” he adds. “I am friendly, honest and reliable and ensure I leave everything clean and tidy when I finish work.”
