Joiner Ian Yates can turn his skills to anything – large or small. Whether it’s crafting a bespoke champagne rack, building a large garden studio or making a staircase, Ian is more than equal to the task.
His reputation among tradesmen is such that they use him to work on their own homes. With 41 years in his trade, Ian has tackled large projects such as a splendid oak staircase for Lee Kelly UPVC owner Mark Lee, who praised Ian’s craftmanship. But he is still happy to do the smallest of jobs such as easing or hanging a door. “I rarely work less than 10 hours a day and am always ready to fit in smaller jobs.” He offers “all aspects of joinery” – anything from putting up shelves or installing timber/plastic windows to bespoke joinery projects, furniture, kitchen fitting, extensions, dormer and loft conversions. “People say you can’t offer all aspects, but I do – I’d get bored if I did one thing.”
Ian, 59, has a workshop in Barton to machine bespoke items. Give him a problem and he’ll design a solution, with drawings. Ian has also fitted out bars and shops, and one of his best clients is Zebra Technologies, Pittman Way, Fulwood; where he refurbished offices and a conference room. He also
fitted the bars at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens, where he still works, and oak radiator shelves at Church of St Andrew and Blessed George Haydock, Cottam.
