You’ll get more than you bargained for if you ask Mick Rigby to decorate your house. He also does property maintenance and will make good any other repairs uncovered during his painting and wallpapering. “If I find anything, I mention it to the customer and do it as a matter of course,” he says.
Genial Mick, 56, grew up in New Longton and is a former pupil of Penwortham Priory High School. A former Royal Mail manager, he took voluntary redundancy in 2008 to pursue his love of decorating, having always done jobs for friends and contacts. Work has come regularly through word-of-mouth and repeat custom.
He does all external and internal decorating, including wallpapering, stressing he “does it the right way”. “For instance, I don’t just use paste for wallpapering, I put PVA glue on the joints and top and bottom to avoid shrinkage and stop the edges lifting.
“I am friendly, reliable, honest and thorough and you get a good quality of workmanship.”
Mick does mainly domestic work but commercial jobs include Longton Dental and BonBons Coffee Bar, Penwortham.
He also does property maintenance and refurbishment, large and small, including bathroom and kitchen installation, using trusted tradesmen for plumbing, electrics, gas and so on – he has been referred through entire families who are pleased with his work.
