For a smooth, long-lasting finish to the outside of your house, you need an expert.
These pictures of recent jobs show clearly how plasterer-turned-renderer Paul Perkins transforms the appearance of homes and businesses. Paul, who has 17 years’ experience, uses a rendering system from paint-makers Johnstone’s. Following preparation work – which is crucial – he applies a thin high-polymer base coat, on to which he places a plastic mesh to prevent cracks. It is then rendered and finished by a silicon top coat that is flexible and crack-resistant. “This comes in a choice of 200 colours and is waterproof and self cleaning, so you don’t need to decorate it for 15 years – low-maintenance is what people want these days,” says Paul. “It is also guaranteed through Johnstone’s for 10 years.”
Fully trained in plastering and friendly Paul, 32, from Fulwood, and his staff, including a brand new local college apprentice, do mainly rendering, including pebbledash, brick-effect render and one-coat render, which is cheaper but needs painting. He offers a variety of products, but prefers the Johnstone’s system as he believes it ages the best. Paul is a Johnstone’s approved applier and is also British Gypsum approved. He adds: “We’re reliable and we get the job done fast and cleanly.”
From the Midlands, he met a Preston girl and has lived here for nearly four years. Much work is in Penwortham, thanks to word-of-mouth recommendation and growing contacts with builders across the Preston area. Work ranges from large commercial projects to domestic porch fronts.
