Being an educator takes a special type of passion – which Danny Garratt and his team at Preston Tuition Centre and Lancaster Tutoring Centre have. The former Archbishop Temple pupil has owned Preston Tuition Centre for four years and has just taken over at Lancaster this year. He qualified as a secondary mathematics teacher in 2012 and soon established a tutoring business via ‘tutors-in-preston.co.uk’. “You can help students progress so much quicker in a tuition setting than in a classroom with 32 kids – it was a no-brainer,” said Danny.
After seven years of tuition and working as a supply teacher in local schools, Danny was approached by Ian McKinlay, owner at the Preston centre, who identified him as someone able to drive the centre forwards upon his retirement. “Danny is someone who can build a positive relationship with any person who comes through the door – something vital to help them reach their potential,” Ian said. Since taking over, Danny gained recognition as an Ofsted Registered centre under the ‘Childcare’ category, meaning you can get the same financial assistance for tuition as you would for general childcare, if you qualify.
Danny took on George Kulbacki, former Head of English at Our Lady’s Catholic High School for 17 years, as his lead English tutor. He also re-introduced science tuition to the centre in 2020, with James Lythgoe and has since added Luke Robinson, who teaches Biology at Newman College. The team also includes Fiona Stockley (English), Jane Anderton (Maths), Fatima Member and Gabby McMahon (Primary specialist). Danny prides himself on only using fully qualified teachers who have been DBS-checked, meaning you can rest secure in knowledge that your child is in the best possible hands during each visit.
