It’s all change at Stewart Preston’s smart new-look garage at Barton. Shiny grey roller doors front a re-shaped interior which allows him to offer full MoT testing for the first time. “We’ve a new bay to do this and it’s been hectic ever since,” says Stewart.
His client base continues to grow as new-build owners find their way to his organised workshop, now easier to access on the A6 thanks to the Broughton by-pass. Few mechanics are as experienced as Stewart, who’s worked at the site 34 years, 21 as his own boss after former owner Roger Holmes retired. Stewart and his mechanic Tony Beirne can fix all your problems and their services now include vehicle electrics such as central locking, ABS, electric mirrors, reversing sensors and more, thanks to Tony’s auto electrical qualification.
Stewart, 69, started in the motor trade after leaving Fulwood County Secondary at 15. He has a strong base of loyal clients. “With being here so long, we work more on a friendly basis than a business footing with customers. People come from Blackpool and one man from Southport as
they feel they know and trust us.”
Stewart has the latest diagnostic software, which means he can repair or service virtually any make of car. He also does tyres, exhausts, clutches and brakes.
Clients include Barton Grange Group’s fleet and Myerscough College.
