The Care Quality Commission (CQC) visited The Brambles in April 2022 and have seen a huge leap back up to a ‘Good’ rating in all areas.
This great improvement is exactly what owner, Guloo Virdee has been striving for. The rest home has been in his family since 1995 and Guloo has grown up in the Longton community. “We give 24-hour personalised care,” he says. “We are family-run and understand the value of family and what it means to be a family. We are a home from home.”
Two key members of the new staff team at The Brambles are Jane Williamson (left) and Lisa Wright-Bridge (right). Jane joined the team in October 2021, playing a key role in positive changes the rest home has made in the last year. “We are striving for a rating of ‘Outstanding’ and the inspectors admitted they could see that,” she says. “Lisa is the one who is going to take us there though – she is a brilliant example to us all.” Lisa, registered manager who joined the staff in August 2022, has clearly made an impression on both staff and residents. A St. Catherine’s Hospice nurse shared feedback from a resident at The Brambles: “She feels really supported and listened to,” they told Lisa, “The lady was so pleased with the care you are providing.”
The home, which is often full, caters for people needing personal care, those with early stage Dementia/Alzheimer’s and end-of -life care. All 32 rooms are ensuite and well appointed, with a television, and the food is good! “We have an in-house cook, and use local produce, giving residents choices each day,” said Lisa.
The Brambles has activities such as yoga, games, sing-alongs, bingo, arts and crafts, arm-chair exercises and afternoon tea dances. Plus a Christmas party, summer fair, church services and visits by the local priest and Chapel Lane Nursery pupils.
Call or book a visit to meet the genuine, caring team at the heart of the rest home’s community.
